Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine found that GLP-1 medications, commonly used for diabetes and weight loss, are associated with reduced risk of developing substance use disorders across all major addictive substances and lower rates of overdose and death in people with existing addictions. The study of over 600,000 U.S. veterans showed the drugs may work by reducing cravings rather than targeting specific substances.
