Police and council officers entered a protest camp at Brisbane's Victoria Park on Friday, detaining two protesters as tensions escalated over a planned $3.6 billion Olympic stadium development. The group occupying the site for months awaits a federal decision on cultural heritage protection and has been ordered to vacate by Monday when construction is scheduled to begin.
I don't think the heritage at this site is worth protecting. Their cause is weak. Its just a park that was a golf course where a long time ago some Aboriginal people lived. Construction must start as soon as possible.
I'm no fan of QLD LNP, but this stadium seems pretty attractive and uncontroversial. Similar to the football stadium in Tasmania that had a huge furore surrounding it, but then got quietly approved and now isn't discussed any longer and will likely significantly improve the surrounding precinct and waterfront.
